Oslo’s public transport is operated by Ruter, covering the city and surrounding Akershus county with an integrated ticketing system.
T-bane (Metro)
5 lines serving the city centre and suburbs. Hours: approximately 5:30–00:30 (until 1:30 on Fridays and Saturdays). Trains every 2–3 minutes on the central Common Tunnel section, every 8–15 minutes on branches.
Trams and Buses
6 tram lines and an extensive bus network complement the metro. Night buses operate when the metro closes.
Fares (Zone 1 — covers central Oslo and all tourist needs)
| Ticket | Adult | Child (6–17) / Senior |
|---|---|---|
| Single (60 min) | 46 NOK | 19 NOK |
| 24-hour | 137 NOK | 69 NOK |
| 7-day | 379 NOK | 190 NOK |
Zone 1 covers all metro lines, trams, and most bus routes. Multi-zone tickets needed for the airport and outer areas.
How to Pay
Ruter app (recommended), travel card (50 NOK card + top-up at kiosks), or onboard bus/ferry (cash, slightly more expensive). No ticket sales on trams or metro stations — buy before boarding. Fine for fare evasion: 950–1,150 NOK.
Airport Transfer (OSL)
- Flytoget (Airport Express Train): 19 minutes to Oslo S, every 10 minutes, 268 NOK. Children under 16 travel free.
- Vy local trains: Cheaper alternative, approximately 23 minutes
- Flybussen (airport bus): Every 20 minutes
- Taxi: Very expensive — approximately 800–1,100 NOK fixed rate
Taxis
Expensive. Companies: Oslo Taxi, Norgestaxi. Apps: Yango, Bolt. Uber is not available in Oslo. Fixed-zone pricing desks at the airport.
Ferries (Båt)
Ruter also operates ferries on the Oslofjord, included in the same ticket system.
